Italy, Turin. 23rd UIA World Conference of Architects, Turin 2008. Running from 29th June-3rd July 2008. In conjunction with the organisers of the 23 rd UIU World Conference, Turin 2008, l'ARCA is devoting its entire June issue to this extremely important event. It will be looking at the broad range of exciting issues on the agenda, as well as the busy schedule of conferences, meetings, shows and exhibitions being held on the premises of the Lingotto and Palavela, but also involving the entire city of Turin. "Transmitting Architecture – Comunicare Architettura" is the conference's main theme, which will set the guidelines for a number of side events.

Italy, Milan. The Porta Nuova project, involving the re-composition of three projects in the Garibaldi, Varesine and Isola neighbourhoods, covers an area of over 290,000 square metres. Redeveloping the urban fabric is a natural development on the existing neighbourhoods. This major operation will involve over 20 architecture firms from eight different countries including Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, Kohn Pedersen Fox Architects, Boeri Studio.

The Netherlands, Spijkenisse. Designed by UNStudio in 2008, Spijkenisse Theatre will be constructed by 2011. One of the most distinctive features of the complex is the cafeteria-bar shaped like an amphitheatre, where shows and other events can be held.

Dedalo Minosse International Prize for commissioning a building. The jury met on 15th february: the winners will be announced on May 30th in Vicenza. The awards ceremony will take place on May 30th at Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza. In this edition, particular attention was dedicated to works inspired by the social and economic sustainability of the architectures. The celebration will be preceded on May 29th from the roundtable "Waiting the Dedalo Minosse", on the topic of commissioning, moderated by Oliviero Toscani, to which they will participate like relatotors: Mario Botta, architect; Cesare Maria Casati, editor of l'ARCA; Antonio Chiarappa of Risanamento Gruppo Zunino; Adolfo Guzzini, President of IN/ARCH; Franco Mirenzi, editor of OFArch; Luigi Prestinenza Puglisi, architectural historian. The exhibition of the winning projects, organized in Palladian Palazzo Valmarana Braga in Vicenza, will be inaugurated on May 30th and will remain open until August 24th 2008. |
